DIY Knotted Winter Headband

11/2/2014

Picture
Headbands. Always perfect for dressing up a boring outfit, hiding a bad hair day, or simply keeping your ears warm. I excited to share a simple tutorial for this knotted headband. Enjoy!
DIRECTIONS:

1. Select fabric. You will want your fabric to have a little bit of elasticity to it so it will stretch and fit comfortably. I found some stretchy fabric that was also quite thick. I wanted my headband to be thick enough to act more like ear warmers. Perfect for winter!
2. Measure your head and subtract 2 inches. Then cut two pieces that length and 6 inches wide.
3. Fold hot dog style and sew long sides together. Turn right side out.
4. Lay one piece on top of the other to form a cross.
5. Pick up both ends of one piece and lift.
6. Pull the ends of both pieces in opposite directions.

7. Overlap each end so that all four layers are on top of each other and sew along edge.
8.Pull right side out so that the unfinished edge faces in.
9.Put on head. You look cute.

Wow, Hannah! Where do you get all these fabulous ideas? And what fabric places in Grand Rapids would have good material to make these headbands?

Why thank you Leah! The more creativity you use the more you have. ;) I typically get most of my fabric from thrift stores. They sell bins of fabric or old vintage sheets for next to nothing! The Company Store in Zeeland is really great too. They sell leftover fabric from Herman Miller for super cheap. You should look it up! But this fabric happens to be from Field's Fabrics in Jenison.

hello, can you tell me where I can purchase this fabric? I am loving the herringbone pattern. Also you you straight stitch the pieces or zigzag?

Krisilyn,

I got this fabric at Fields Fabric.

I'm sure either zig zag or straight stitch would work, but I used straight. It was simpler and turned out great! Hope this helps!

Hi,

What do you mean by 'fold hot dog style'? Thanks

Connie,

By "fold hot dog style" I simply meant that you need to fold in half the LONG way, getting your fabric ready to see from step #2 to step #3.

Wondering what the answers are to the questions: straight stitch?
What does hot dog style mean?
